K'far Rishon Chicken Farm
Support a Chicken Farm -- Run Entirely by Women!
Most of the villagers who live in K’far Rishon Namutumba are subsistence farmers, growing only enough food to feed their families. There are no jobs in the village, no other ways to make money.
Last year, thanks to generous donations amounting to $15,000, the community built a chicken house and purchased 300 chicks. In ten months, the chickens laid close to 30,000 eggs, which were sold at the local market. The profits were divided between reinvestment, salaries, and savings in the Community Bank Account.
The villagers would like to scale up operations by building a second chicken house and buying more chickens. The price tag for this expansion is $10,000. They are turning to us again for help. This is the first revenue-producing, job-creating enterprise in this community.
